Summer Sunday

I'm preparing the home my parents spent their retirement in... for rental.
Oh my goodness, they saved most everything, a daunting and emotional task sorting through it all.
Some will go to local charity thrift stores and animal shelters, some to the local historical society, and some to a project to preserve information about World War 2 and its veterans.
My wonderful friend Sharon was kind enough to help me with that today and I am so grateful for all the kindness she has shown me.
She and I visited my mother in the memory unit. "Memory unit" is a misnomer in that those who reside there are largely devoid of memory in varying degrees. My lovely mother Rebecca, hasn't recognized me for some time now, however, I recognize her, bring her flowers, kiss her forehead, hold her hand when she lets me... and I tell her I love her.

Tight lines and good fishing...

Oh my goodness! Decisions are emerging from the Supreme Court.
I'm somewhat heartened to hear that corporate entities will be curtalied from acquiring patents on naturally occuring human DNA. Not so clear about the "artificially" produced human DNA that appears to be exempt from the courts decision.
Any Comments?

A New Beginning

Well, it's been some time and I apologize for being gone from this endeavor for so long.
Suffice it to say that the Captain has been dealing with a lot of issues, much of that concerning caregiving for elderly parents.

I expect that folks of a certain age may be able to relate to the difficulties and hardships this can entail, so I won't go into a lot of detail.

For reasons I don't really understand... I am now compelled to begin writing here again. That seems counter intuitive given recent revelations concerning the apparent excesses our national security "conglomerate" have been up to of late. (Awe lets be real... they have been doing that stuff for many years.)

Still seems awfully presumptuous to think that anything I might contribute here would be of any interest to readers, however, given the current level of discourse in most commercial media, I'm feeling downright brilliant.

I'm hoping we can discuss politics, art, culture, and hopefully share some humor.
Kindly cut me a little slack as I rediscover how to manage this thing.

I reserve the right to eliminate any posts that I consider to be obscene, bigoted, or just mean spirited.
Original viewers of this blog were principally librarians or those who labor in that field and I welcome their participation should they care to look in and/or contribute.

Tight lines and good fishing,
Captain Rob
